PA Greenways Program Advisory Committee
The Secretary of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), Michael DiBerardinis, is committed to making greenways “a key component of our efforts to protect natural resources, promote community revitalization, provide outdoor recreation, and promote tourism. Our greenways program is particularly relevant to the Governor’s economic development and quality of life strategies for Pennsylvania.”
Recognizing that achieving the goals of the Pennsylvania’s Statewide Greenways Plan, An Action Plan for Creating Connections, requires the participation of many partners, Secretary DiBerardinis established the Greenways Program Advisory Committee in 2003 to help guide the evolving Greenways Program (members at right). Committee Members represent many government and non-profit organizations from around the state. In addition, an Interagency Coordination Team was established with representatives from state agencies and commissions, whose work promotes and supports Pennsylvania greenways.
The Committee meets quarterly to share up-to-the-minute greenways news from around the state, and to recommend new strategies and directions based on the needs of the greenways community.
The Committee also established two special workgroups, Economic Benefits and Conservation, to advance research and recommend strategies to benefit the greenways community.
