The Commonwealth is developing a strategy to encourage the growth of tourism and related-businesses in Northcentral Pennsylvania based on the significant outdoor experiences available in this 12-county area. The Governor’s Task Force on the Pennsylvania Wilds, led by DCNR Secretary Michael DiBerardinis, has begun an 18-month planning process to examine outdoor recreation resources, the region’s lumber heritage, opportunities for private concessions to support tourism; public facilities and staffing needed to support the Pennsylvania Wilds; and opportunities to stimulate purchase of Pennsylvania wood products and other local goods and services through tourism.
