Governor Rendell Announces More Than $17 Million For Community Recreation and Conservation

Description:
Noting that parks, open spaces, and recreation areas contribute to the vitality of Pennsylvania's communities, both big and small, Governor Edward G. Rendell today announced $17.3 million in grants to undertake 238 local park, recreation, and conservation projects in 62 of Pennsylvania's 67 counties.

Standing along the banks of the Schuylkill River, Governor Rendell presented Philadelphia Mayor John Street with a $1.4 million ceremonial check for several conservation and recreation projects within the city, including a $500,000 grant to the Philadelphia Department of Commerce to further develop the Schuylkill River Park, part of the continuous linear Schuylkill River Trail along the lower eight miles of the Schuylkill River from the Fairmount Water Works to the Delaware River.
